This weekend, my daughter-in-law took this picture of me walking around the pond with my girls.
I didn't know she was taking it.
I wasn't dressed for a picture. I wasn't posing.
The goats certainly weren't cooperating for one. 😂 We were just doing what we do — wandering around the farm together.
And when I saw the picture later, I stopped.
Because this is why.
This is why there's a Moon Sunset Farm.
It's easy to get caught up in everything that needs done. There are goats to milk, barns to clean, pastures to take care of, gardens to tend, soap to make, lotion to bottle, labels to print, orders to fill, markets to prepare for — and approximately 947 other things I probably forgot.
Some days I'm dirty before breakfast.
Some days I'm tired.
Some days I'm pretty sure these goats are running this place and I'm simply unpaid staff.
But then there are moments like this.
Walking beside the pond on a beautiful summer day with Martha, Poppy, Clove and Lucy tagging along beside me. No agenda. No destination. Just wandering.
I've always loved the saying “Not all those who wander are lost.” So much that I have it tattooed on my forearm.
Maybe that's because I've never believed life has to follow some perfectly straight path.
Sometimes you build a career.
Sometimes you build a farm.
Sometimes you do both.
And somewhere along the way, six Nigerian Dwarf goats become part of your family.
But looking at this picture.......I wouldn't change it.
There's something pretty damn wonderful about realizing you're standing right in the middle of a life you once dreamed about.
So yes, we make some pretty fabulous goat milk soap and lotion around here.
But this is Moon Sunset Farm.
The pond.
The woods.
The sunshine.
The girls.
The wandering.
And one very grateful woman walking right through the middle of it all.
Stay wild. Wander often. And smell good while you're doing it. 🐐❤️
